Whereas, our ability to recruit and retain such a graduate student body is now severely
compromised by our low and noncompetitive stipends for TAs/GAs,
Now be it resolved that the Faculty calls upon the administration to make appropriate
and competitive compensation for TAs/GAs a top priority.

Now be it further resolved that the Faculty wishes to express its strong support for fair
and competitive compensation for the TAs/GAs.
This petition was originally passed by the New Brunswick Graduate Faculty at its meeting on
December 11, 2003. Now, hundreds of members of the AAUP have joined to add their names
to the call for fair treatment for graduate students. They are listed here alphabetically. The
AAUP will present this petition to the Rutgers Board of Governors at their February 13, 2004
meeting on the Newark campus. If you would like to sign on to the petition, there is still time;
, providing your name and affiliation.
To all signers of the petition, new and old, faculty and students, if you would like to join us for
the petitions presentation. There will be free
transportation, free lunch, a few brief speeches, and lots of conviviality all in the name of a fair
contract for the working people of Rutgers University.
